Salvete, Omnes!

This is your RA Olivia! I am looking forward to meeting you all very very soon. As you are packing, here are a few reminders about some of the essential items:

  • Watch: Without your phones, you will need a way to keep track of time! We have a saying at GLA: early is on-time, on-time is late, and late is unacceptable. Make sure that you do not bring any type of watch that connects to the internet.
  • Alarm Clock: Bring one so you can wake up on-time! Again do not bring anything that is internet capable.
  • Sunscreen & Bug Spray: We will be walking outside between all of the fun classes, activities, and field trips we will be going on! Make sure to protect yourself from the UV rays and also from any bugs we may encounter.
  • Water Bottle: Hydrate or die-drate…it is so important to make sure we stay hydrated during these hot summer days!
  • Laundry Supplies: Make sure to pack detergent, dryer sheets, and plenty of quarters for the laundry machines.
  • Stationary: Bring stationary, envelopes, stamps, and the addresses of your family and friends so you can write to them while you're at GLA! Writing letters is such a nice way to stay connected to the people you may be missing.
  • I also recommend bringing photos, notes, or other mementos from your room at home that may help your dorm room feel more comfortable and homey while you are at GLA. You may also want to bring card or board games to play during downtime, as well as a CD player and CDs if you see yourself potentially struggling with the loss of access to music streaming services!

Please make sure to go through the complete packing checklists linked to the right of this blog, this blog post just highlights some of the most important/frequently forgotten items!

I had so much fun at GLA as a student and am so excited for you all to experience it as well!

ex animo,

Your RA Olivia :)
