So, you have spent a good deal of effort in your years of school to learn Latin, but chances are that you haven't yet tried to speak it. The course that we will be doing together is designed to give you an introduction on how to speak Latin. We will take a gradual approach and focus our efforts on practicing phrases and elements of Latin that you will need for three key activities in the program: Thermopolium, Bellum Mercium, and Mercatus. You will be learning soon about these games that have been a tradition for VGLA over many years now and I look forward to being your guide along the way this year!

You may also be wondering who exactly I am and what I am like as a teacher. My students tend to describe me as energetic and caring. I love teaching and have done this in a wide variety of settings. I have taught in both K-12  schools and universities, I have taught in big east coast cities like Boston, NYC, and DC. I have also taught abroad in Rome and presented research in places as far away as Belgium. Roman archeological sites were the driving factor in my travels throughout the Mediterranean over several summers and you may notice some photos from these travels in the activities we do in class. As far as speaking Latin is concerned, this is something I have enjoyed doing for a long time now and I firmly believe speaking Latin is something that everyone can learn how to do. I feel lucky to be the person to introduce you to the vast ocean of possibilities that await in the realm of spoken Latin.

Here are some pictures of me that capture elements of who I am and things that I love:
