Salvete, outside world! Today was our first full day 0f activities (hopefully rainy days ahead!). The campaigning continues as candidates compete for leadership positions, such as the aedile, which will be two of us by tomorrow! Aediles are the blog writers, who have special access to the outside world.
Today had a high of 97 degrees, aka TOO HOT. Especially when the AC decided to malfunction in the dining hall. The heat was at its worst during a scavenger hunt around campus, which involved us searching for three names written on a specific brick on a pavement full of them! But the thrill of racing each other motivated us through it all. Our first day of Latin classes were very fulfilling as we got an introduction to Appalachian Arcadia, which combined the stories of the Greek and Roman pastoral poets with Appalachian folk music, Voces Feminarum, which explored the voices of women writers in antiquity, and Nuterque et Uterque, which covered scansion of Ovid and an introduction to his Metamorphoses. In the evening, we attempted to watch a 1977 adaptation of the classic Greek tragedy Iphigenia in Aulis. We were amazed by the power and cinematography which Iphigenia. A lot of us were on the verge of tears from the plot, and on just the first day! Overall, the first day was positive and it's safe to say we are all excited for the excitement that tomorrow will bring! Keep an eye on the blog for more updates, and maybe pictures, and to see who the final two aediles writing all the blogs will be! Hopefully tomorrow will be cooler! Valete Amici! Your temporary aediles, Emily, Reese, and Jackson

Thank you for keeping us parents informed each day! It's truly reassuring to see what our kids are learning and experiencing—I really appreciate all the effort you put into sharing these updates. I'm also looking forward to reading future posts from the soon-to-be-elected student aediles.
