RA Intro: Sofia!

Salvete, omnes! My name is Sofia (she/her/ea/eam) and I will be one of your RAs at Latin Academy this year! I attended GLA back in MMXIX, and this will be my first year as an RA. I’m currently in undergrad and majoring in Classical Philology. I’ve studied abroad in Rome this past semester and Athens last January, and would love to answer any questions you might have about majoring in Classics or abroad or anything!

I’m very excited to meet you all and get this summer rolling. Trust me, the weeks go by fast. I’m very pleased that the Eurocup and Copa America are happening at the same time right now, so feel free to talk to me about that. I’m an avid reader (and if you’re one too, my advice is that you can never have too many books!!) and would love to give recommendations or trade books while at Academy. I have one cat, Misha, and she is the light of my life. I played the clarinet in high school so I identify with the band kids, and I’m fluent in Spanish.

I will be running an elective centered around ancient board games and past-times! I aim to expand our games beyond the Mediterranean and learn a couple fun games that involve ancient set-ups, strategies, pieces, and more! They will be adjusted, but still fun and enjoyable! If you like board games, strategies, learning about different customs, TTRPGs, or just vibing - I hope to see you there!

Academy can be daunting, but I promise that you will all find your groove, find your people, and make the most of your time here. Please take advantage of our resources and never be afraid to ask questions. Bring plenty of snacks, bring plenty of books, but don't fret if you forget anything (trust me, you probably will)! Walmart/Target are a short ways away and you will have time to get last-minute things if you need to.

Take a deep breath and don't stress the little things. I can't wait to meet all of you very soon!

Valete!
