Quisquis Amat Valeat
Salvete omnes! Mihi nomen est Magistra Koshute (she/her)! I am so excited to be one of your teachers this Summer at Latin Academy. I will be teaching a class called Voces Feminarum about women from Ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt who were poets, scholars, and empresses. But I will share more about my class later. During this past school year I taught Latin at South Lakes High School in Reston, VA. In the Fall, I will be a graduate student and teaching assistant at the University of Kentucky's Classics department. In the next year I will be building up my spoken Latin skills at UK, a skill which we will all be working on together at Latin Academy over the next few weeks! I am overjoyed to be returning to the Latin Academy for my fourth Summer here, it truly is such a special place. For the last two years I have been a Resident Assistant, and in MMXVIII I attended as a student. Just like several other staff members here, I have been in your shoes. Latin Academy can seem very intimidating at first. I remember being afraid it would be stressful, that I might not be good enough or know as much Latin as my peers, or that I would be graded harshly on my work. There was a fear that it might be the worst three weeks of my life. But in my experience, I remember it as possibly the best three weeks of my time in high school. Latin Academy is a unique place where you will just absorb information, without having to worry about homework or grades, it all happens naturally. Everyone is passionate about learning, and creating an environment that feels safe and comfortable for you to do so. And you will have otium (free time) everyday to relax, exercise and just enjoy time with friends. I am so excited to meet all of you and help create the GLA experience for you very soon! A bit more about me: I love to play soccer (and always enjoy watching the Women's World Cup and Olympic soccer games). I am also a big fan of theater and musicals especially. I play violin, and one of my favorite activities in college was playing violin in the pit orchestra for musicals, combining my two musical hobbies. The first time I played in a pit orchestra was actually accompanying a play at Latin Academy as a student. I also love listening to music in general. From Indie to kpop, I love making playlists! I enjoy watching animated shows (like Avatar the Last Airbender and the new SheRa) and anime (Studio Ghibli movies are my favorite). I also studied English, so talk to me about Shakespeare, Paradise Lost, or give me book recs! :) Looking forward to meeting you all soon! ex animo, Magistra Koshute
