Quisquis Amat Valeat
Salvete! Mihi nomen est Magistra Harrell! I teach Latin in Chesterfield county at Clover Hill High School for all levels from Latin I to AP Latin to even Latin VI. I've lived in the city of Richmond for two years now, so my hobbies currently are scoping out farmers' and art markets in different neighborhoods of the city and trying to find the best bagel (right now, it's from Nate’s Bagels). When I am not roaming the city with my tote bag, I like to do paint-by-numbers, cross stitch patterns, crafts - anything where I can follow directions and have a beautiful product at the end. I will be teaching a class about Epistles and composition in Latin which you can read more about soon. In addition, I will be helping with some of the games for the Province Cup - a running tally of points/awards for each Province based on games and activities throughout the academy. This is the first time I am teaching at the academy after attending as a student in MMXVII and as an RA in MMXX, and I am so excited to see you all there. As a Randolph-Macon alumna as well, I want to give you some advice about your time spent on RMC’s beautiful campus. #1: Bring some of your favorite to-go snacks with you to eat throughout the day, or ask loved ones to mail you some. Estes Dining hall is full of quirks, surprises, and jolts, so there may be a time where you only eat potatoes as your meal and may require sustenance at the end of the day. #2: Although we will be “Bowered midst its oaks and maples / Beautiful to view,” as the RMC Alma Mater states, bring sunscreen and maybe bug spray. You do not want to get a sunburn the first few days in the academy or during any outside activities we do. The Ashland sun can be unforgiving. I am so excited to meet each and every one of you, and I can’t wait for you to stay for a little while in the Center of the Universe that is Ashland, Virginia. The Latin Academy was how I decided I wanted to apply to RMC and become a Latin teacher, so this campus and staff hold a very near and dear spot in mea anima. It is a unique experience you will not have any where else - so be open minded and ready to enjoy it! Curate ut valeatis, Magistra Harrell P.S. check out my pictures below, you may see me as a student in Germania :)
