Dies Tertius: Studia, Oratio Hospita, et Electiones

Salvete omnes! We are your new aediles Ciara and Philip writing instead of Διδάσκαλος Cogan and we are very excited to take this position! We apologize for the blog’s absence yesterday as our writing got deleted after technical difficulties. Διδάσκαλος Cogan even said the deletion is sadder than the Greek tragedies we will read in GLA.

Yesterday our classes comprised Mercatus, Ancient Greek, and Quae Nunc Est Romae. Mercatus was a relaxing introduction to a newly introduced menu project we’re cooking up! Our very own Roman restaurants are rolling around the corner.

In addition to Mercatus, we took our first steps on our Ancient Greek journey with Διδάσκαλος Cogan and learned the Greek alphabet. Διδάσκαλος Cogan set an exciting challenge for us to either read or recall the opening lines of Homer’s Odyssey for Province Cup points.

Quae Nunc Est Romae was an introduction to the history of Roman art. Today, we specifically touched on the ambiguous definition of “Roman art,” Greek impact on Roman art, and its depiction in literature. We specifically discussed Pliny the Elder’s tangent on famous Greek painters in his Naturalis Historia.

Yesterday was also an especially exciting day as we had our very first guest lecture by Dr. Houghtalin, a former GLA teacher. She gave a lecture on Roman coins and how the Good Emperors (Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, and Marcus Aurelius) used them as propaganda. Maximas gratias to Dr. Houghtalin for your time and your insightful lecture!

To conclude the long day, we held our elections and votes to decide our officers for the next three weeks! Here are your elected officers officers:

Consuls (overseeing students and general responsibilities): Jihyo and Reesey
Your True Aediles (who write this blog!): Ciara and Philip
Praetors (sport event organizers): Lincoln and Nishka
Quaestors (Epistulae managers): Kaitlyn and Lily
Tribunes (social event organizers): Mackenzie and Ginny
Censors (head counters): Isadora and Elijah)

Huge congratulations to our officers! It was such a close vote and we are ecstatic to have you all on our board.

As your newly elected aediles who are taking control over the blog, we are happy to announce a new section of the GLA blog: Arleigh’s Fanta Furies! Arleigh has been drinking lots and lots and lots of Fanta for the past few days and we thought it would be nice to document the number of Fanta Arleigh drinks.

GLA Out of Context:
“I have to commit every crime in 18 days.”
“So someone texted Cicero…”
“Cars 2 is the Libation Bearers of the Cars trilogy.”
“You’re not gonna tell me what Latin gender I am.”

Arleigh’s Fanta Furies:
Dies Secundus: 5
Dies Tertius: 4 + 1 Starry + Orange Gatorade (which we will count as Fanta)
Total: 10

Valete,
Ciara and Philip (Your True Aediles)
